Ergonomic office chairs can help alleviate back and neck pain and lead to greater productivity
There's too much at stake sitting for prolonged periods of time for us to take it lightly. Ergonomic office chairs can help alleviate stress in the back and neck muscles and help correct poor sitting posture. Poor sitting posture can lead to serious problems over time and result in back and/or neck pain as a result of nerve damage that occurs. Even with an excellent and comfortable office chair there are certain things that we should do. The following are some guidelines when sitting in an office chair:
- Sit as close to your desk as possible and try to keep your elbows at a 90 degree angle to your spine. This helps force better posture and leads to a better and more comfortable sitting position.
- Your feet should be flat on the floor at a 90 degree angle to the edge of the chair. Make sure your legs are not dangling in thin air.
- Make sure you're sitting all the way back in your seat. Your lumbar area (lower back) should be up against the back of the chair. That means no slouching or leaning forward! Good lumber support is critical to reducing or eliminating back pains.
- Get up often and move around. Staying static for too long is not good for your body. Periodic movement will help keep muscles, joints and tendons loose and relaxed.
Good sitting habits take time to develop but they are well worth the effort. Besides your health depends on it.
