Ergonomic office seating principles lead to innovative and comfortable office chairs that provide excellent posture and health benefits
Ergonomic office seating provides the necessary back support required for
optimal health. There are certain truths that applies to your body regardless of
race, religion, color, creed, occupation, sex or age. Ergonomic health
principles as it relates to sitting is one of those truths. In fact, bad posture
and poor seating if left uncorrected can and does lead to health issues in later
years. Maintaining healthy posture and comfort at work while seated, especially
for long periods is essential to avoiding health issues in later years.
Poor posture places strain on specific body muscles. Eventually those muscles
get tired and when they do body tissues and nerves begin to compress and pinch,
circulation drops and even proper breathing is disrupted. By the time you feel
the pinches, aches or pains of improper posture its too late - the damage has
already been done. Surprisingly, this scenario plays out day after day in
offices throughout the world and what do we do about it? Unfortunately we treat
the symptom of our pain rather than find the cause and consequently we end up
popping pain killers, use ice packs, receive massages, or jump in a nice warm
Jacuzzi to relax and relieve our misery all while being oblivious to the real
cause of our predicament.
The study of ergonomics concerns itself with design factors that maximize
productivity by minimizing operator fatigue and discomfort. Since the early
1970s' the study and application of ergonomics to office chairs has lead to a
very good understanding of the principles concerning proper seating and the
application of those principles have lead to revolutionary advances in state of
the art ergonomic office chairs such as the Herman Miller
MirraTM and
Aeron.
Today many excellent ergonomically designed office chairs exist but they all
have one principle in common; they provide for excellent back support especially
in the lumber or lower back region. As advancements continue to be made in
design, material and comfort ergonomic features continue to filter downward from
high end chairs to mid and lower level ergonomic office chairs and that's good
news for everyone.
Perhaps in the near future bad posture from sitting, like slouching and the
inevitable aches and pains that stem from sore muscles will become a memory of
the past thanks to modern ergonomic office seating.
